Is this the Galaxy S10?

The punch hole display can be seen clearly in this enhanced image. You can also see the Bixby button on the left side of the device.

In a blog post published Monday outlining the company’s new One UI design, Samsung may have “accidentally” revealed the Galaxy S10 before its official release, the images have since been swapped for those of a more generic-looking device.

The device had everything that rumours have made the S10 out to have: super-thin bezels, a thinner chin, and a punch-hole in the top right corner of the display.

This oversight, if we may call it that, definitely outshined the actual content of the post which was the introduction of Samsung’s all-new One UI interface.

The interface is designed to make it easier for users to interact with a device without the need to reach beyond the bottom half of the display so you don’t have to adjust the phone’s position in your palm just to check the notifications at the very top of the screen, for example.

Barring any drastic changes, I can say with confidence that we all know how the Galaxy S10 range of phones will look like and roughly what specs these devices will have. What’s left to discover are what new features will come with the device and if Samsung will introduce new colours or finish options.

Top: Before the discovery (Galaxy S10 in image). Bottom: Device replaced with a generic looking one.

The thing is…are these leaks accidental or are they part of the hype train?

The so-called slip-up was spotted by a reddit user who identifies as ggtx but other reddit users are sceptical. Many pointed that the user account, ggtx, was created on December 2, 2018. Even more interesting, the user had not posted anything prior to this. The redditors argue that it is rather suspicious for a fairly young reddit account with zero posts prior to post something so incidental.

Also, it’s just crazy to think that Samsung would so freely distribute images of the Galaxy S10 to designers to use as a sample device on a blog post. I would like to think that Samsung has much stricter control of their information than this.

Ruse or not, stories about the incident is creating a lot of interest about the Galaxy S10 and whether they want to admit it or not, Samsung is basking in the limelight as it gears up for its first major launch of the year.

The Galaxy S10 is scheduled to be officially unveiled February 20 at a Samsung Unpacked event in San Francisco and as we approach closer and closer to the date, you can definitely more leaks and apparently unintential reveals to come.
