Samsung Galaxy S10 launch is now rumoured to take place in mid-February 2019

UPDATE: Samsung Galaxy S10 launch is taking place at San Francisco on 20 February.

Samsung in the past had picked Mobile World Congress as the venue to release its latest Galaxy S flagships. There were a few occasions where they launch their latest flagships at a separate Samsung Unpacked event in New York.

For the upcoming Galaxy S10, it was previously rumoured that the launch will take place on 20th February, just a few days before MWC 2019. Now a new report suggests that the Galaxy S10 event is happening even earlier and at a new venue.

According to Korean Herald, the next Galaxy will be revealed at an Unpacked event in San Francisco just a week before MWC 2019 kicks off next month. If their sources are correct, that means the launch event might take place around 17th or 18th February. Surprisingly, the report mentions that MWC 2019 that’s held in Barcelona is happening on the 28th but it actually starts on 25th February for this year.

It was mentioned that the Korean smartphone maker has been discussing about changing the date and venue of the launch to mark the 10th anniversary of the Galaxy S series. The first Galaxy S was launched on 23rd March 2010.

The report speculated that Samsung is pushing for an earlier launch to avoid a potential of clash with Huawei’s possible foldable smartphone at MWC 2019. The thing is, foldable devices are a different segment and it won’t be a direct competitor to the Galaxy S series. It’s more likely that Samsung is having an earlier event to avoid the chatter in the days leading up to the MWC week.

As always, this is still a rumour and we will definitely get a clear indication once Samsung releases official details of the next Galaxy Unpacked event. Since Malaysia is a key market for Samsung, you can expect Galaxy S10 pre-orders to start almost immediately after its global event.
