It was a deal even Air Asia would have been proud of. Cathay Pacific sold first and business class tickets at prices that would normally get you a seat in economy. However, it could all be too good to be true as the deal may have been caused by a systems error.
Social media and travel blogs went abuzz with the discovery of the offer as frequent fliers and bargain hunters quickly snap up the unbelievable deal. Upon the realisation that the deal may have been an error, these people are now wondering if Cathay would honour the offer.
Cathay said it would address the matter sometime this week. At this point, it was unclear how many first and business class tickets were sold.
Typically, a return first class ticket on Cathay costs close to RM30,000 while a business class ticket sells for RM19,000, depending on the sector. However, during the unplanned deal, first class tickets were sold for RM3,500 while business class seats went for RM2,800. These were for flights from Vietnam to North America.
