This is Motorola’s answer to the Huawei Nova 4

You know the saying, the bigger the better. With Huawei, Honor and even Xiaomi pushing 48MP cameras on their latest smartphones, Motorola is also joining the bandwagon with their upcoming Motorola P40. On top of that, it even ditches the traditional notched display for a punch-hole design.

We now get a clear look thanks to a 360-degree render by Onleaks via 91Mobiles.

The Motorola P40 is said to be the successor to the Motorola P30 which was sold only in China. This new device is expected to be sold internationally and it will run on Android One that offers a stock UI experience.

According to @Onleaks, the front gets a 6.2″ display that has a hole on the top left corner. The hole for the front camera looks quite big like Samsung’s Galaxy A8s. While the display stretches to the top edges of the phone, it still gets a noticeable chin at the bottom for the Motorola branding.

The rear looks quite upmarket with a dual-curved back design that features a vertical dual-camera setup. The main shooter is a 48MP camera, which is likely to utilise Sony’s IMX586 sensor and there’s also a secondary camera for bokeh shots. The P40 also gets a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor that has a Motorola logo on it.

Details on the processor, battery and other cameras are not known at the moment. The current Motorola P30 is running on a Snapdragon 636 processor, so it is likely that Motorola is keeping this as their mid-range offering. @Onleaks had also shared that it will retain a 3.5mm headphone jack and it charges via USB-C. Since it is Android One, you can expect regular software updates and zero bloatware out of the box.

Unfortunately, we probably won’t get the P40 in Malaysia since Motorola and Lenovo had exited our local smartphone market. For those who really want this, you can probably find them through grey importers after it is officially announced sometime next year.
