Samsung Galaxy S10 features, variants and Unpacked launch date allegedly revealed

For those who are excited about the Samsung Galaxy S10, Gizmodo UK has dropped some juicy details including storage options, pricing and even the launch date. For the past few models, Samsung usually launches a new Galaxy S series a day before Mobile World Congress starts in Barcelona. This time, things are expected to be slightly different.

An earlier Samsung Unpacked

According to Gizmodo’s source, Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy S10 at an Unpacked event on 20th February 2019. That’s 5 days before Mobile World Congress 2019 kicks off on 25th February 2019. Pre-orders are expected to start immediately after the event and the Galaxy S10 is said to be available from Friday, 8th March 2019. Since Malaysia is a key market for Samsung, you can be sure that we will be among the first countries to get it.

Screen sizes

In terms of screen sizes, the Galaxy S10 will come in three instead of two models. All of them will feature a new Infinity-O display that has a cut-out-hole for the front camera.

There will be a base Galaxy S10 Lite that is expected to come with a 5.8″ screen while the standard Galaxy S10 will come with a slightly larger 6.1″ display. Meanwhile, the biggest Galaxy S10+ will get a 6.4″ screen. Both the Galaxy S10 and S10+ will have dual-curved displays while the cheaper Lite version is expected to come with a flat panel.

For the Galaxy S10, Samsung will finally introduce an in-display fingerprint sensor and it is likely to use Qualcomm’s new ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. This will be superior to the current in-display fingerprint sensors in the market that are based on optical scanners.

Since there’s very little space in front, Samsung will be ditching its infrared assisted Iris scanner which is currently used for face unlocking.

Another interesting new feature that was mentioned is Powershare which allows you to charge other devices wirelessly. This should be similar to Huawei’s wireless reverse charge on the Mate 20 Pro

Variants and pricing

Like the current Galaxy Note9, the new S10 and S10+ will come with 128GB and 512GB of storage options while the cheaper S10 Lite is expected to be released with a single 128GB model.

Gizmodo’s source also shared that there will be an insane 1TB variant for the Galaxy S10+ and this will be the most expensive Samsung smartphone yet. Below are the expected pricing in the UK:

Galaxy S10 Lite
128GB – £669 (about RM3,531)

Galaxy S10
128GB – £799 (about RM4218)
512GB – £999 (about RM5,274)

Galaxy S10+
128GB – £899 (about RM4,746)
512GB – £1,099 (about RM5,802)
1TB – £1,399 (about RM7,385)

Before you freak out, do note that UK pricing is much more expensive than Malaysia. In the UK, the Galaxy Note9 512GB is going for £1,099 (about RM5,802) but in Malaysia, it is officially priced at RM4,599. From this straight comparison, the Galaxy S10+ 512GB is likely to be priced similarly as the current Galaxy Note9 512GB version.

Of course, we can’t confirm if these details are accurate but we do expect to see more clues in the weeks to come.
