Apart from the Samsung Galaxy S10, Huawei is expected to unveil its new P30 Pro flagship in the first half of 2019. This will be the successor of the current P20 Pro that came with an epic triple-camera setup.
Ahead of its official reveal, a couple of purported cases for the P30 Pro have surfaced online. This gives us some clues of its possible design.
The cases shown here were recently uploaded to SlashLeaks. From the looks of it, Huawei is still maintaining a similar layout as the P20 Pro which mimics the appearance of a point of shoot camera when held in landscape mode. What’s noticeable is a slightly longer camera bump which could possibly indicate that Huawei is adding more cameras on the P30 Pro.
Apart from that, there’s also a long and slim cutout next to the camera bump and this is likely for its flashlight. The shape is rather unusual and we are guessing that Huawei might include extra sensors or they might replace its LED flash for a Xenon unit.
Based on the upcoming trend of an all-screen smartphone with cutout selfie camera, the P30 Pro could look something like the image below. This is a concept design by Ben Geskin.
Interestingly, serial leakster @UniverseIce had dropped a comment that upcoming P30 and P30 Pro will not have a hole in the display like what we’ve seen on the Nova 4 and Honor V20.
Instead, he remarked that the Huawei P30 Pro will either get a screen with a waterdrop design or a full notch at the top. Similar to the Mate 20 Pro, the OLED display will be supplied by either BOE or LG.
He also mentioned that the P30 Pro will highly likely feature a dual-curved screen based on a render that he shared via Twitter. If this is true, this probably the first P-series smartphone to use a dual-curved display.
In terms of imaging, it is speculated that the P30 Pro will be getting a 38MP main camera that utilises Sony’s yet to be announced IMX607 sensor. It’s alleged that it has a sensor size of 1/1.8″ which is slightly smaller than the P20 Pro’s 1/1.7″ sensor for its main 40MP shooter.
According to the alleged spec-sheet, the new sensor uses a dual bayer & white HDR coding pixel array and it has Quad pixel PDAF which could offer better low light performance and even faster focusing. As usual, you can expect Huawei to work closely with Leica in the photography department and there will be more AI-enhanced features thrown into the mix.
As a comparison, the recently announced Honor V20 is using Sony’s new IMX586 sensor that has a 1/2.0″ sensor size and a resolution of 48MP. Huawei is likely to use the same sensor on its high-spec variant of the Nova 4.
