The ASUS ZenFone Max M2 is a cheaper “Lite” version of the Max Pro M2

The ZenFone Max Pro M2 wasn’t the only device that was launched by ASUS today. There’s also an affordable model that’s called the ZenFone Max M2. It shares a similar 6.3″ 19:9 display with a notch but it pushes a lower HD+ (1520×720) resolution.

In terms of design, the rear of the ZenFone Max M2 which uses metal looks identical to the previous ZenFone Max Pro M1. Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 632 processor instead of a Snapdragon 660 unit that’s powering the Pro version.

The device is available in two spec options – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. Both are also expandable via microSD. Like the ZenFone Max Pro M2, it has a triple-card slot that allows you to use two SIM and a microSD card at the same time.

In the optics department, the rear gets a 13MP f/1.8 + 2MP dual-camera combo that supports AI Scene detection. Meanwhile, selfies are handled by an 8MP f/2.0 camera that has softlight LED flash.

Despite being a cheaper device, it still gets a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and face unlock. The battery on the ZenFone Max M2 is slightly smaller at 4,000mAh. It also charges via microUSB and out of the box it runs on stock Android 8.1 Oreo.

So far there are no official details of its availability and pricing for the Malaysian market. In Indonesia, the ASUS ZenFone Max M2 is priced at IDR 2,299,000 (about RM658) for the 3GB RAM + 32GB storage model and IDR 2,699,000 (about RM773) for the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage option.

Meanwhile, the ZenFone Max Pro M2 is going on sale in Malaysia from RM859. Pre-order begins at midnight tonight on 12.12. To learn more about the Max Pro M2, you can check out our full review.
