Fans of the show “Friends” can breathe a sigh of relief, as the gang at Central Perk will not be leaving Netflix next month, according to the company’s chief content officer on Twitter. Could we BE anymore relieved?
Over the weekend, attentive fans of the hit sitcom noticed that Netflix had put an expiration date on the program’s detail page, which leaves them in a forlorn state.
But after an internet uproar over the possibility of “Friends” leaving Netflix at the end of 2018, the streaming platform has decided to extend its streaming contract for another year. However, it is unclear how much longer the TV series will remain on Netflix.

The initial rumours of the departure of “Friends” occurred just a few months after Warner Media revealed that it has plans to launch its own streaming platform. Since Warner Media owns the rights to “Friends”, it makes perfect sense that the hit sitcom will be moved to Warner Media’s own streaming service, which is set to launch in the fourth quarter of 2019.
According to a data analysis from 7Park Data, “Friends” has been one of the most popular TV series on Netflix, ranking in top 10 of the most-viewed licensed TV shows for the 12 months period that ended September 2017. No wonder Netflix subscribers went nuts after receiving this news.
