UPDATE: MCMC has reached out to let us know the official phone numbers that will be used for the purpose of this survey. Here’s what they said:

For the purpose of this survey, these are the legitimate numbers from MCMC, 03-86888235 and 03-86888234. Should you need further clarifications, please contact us at 1800188030 or email at [email protected]

If you receive a phone call from any other numbers claiming that they are conducting a survey on behalf of MCMC, suffice to day that you can ignore it.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will be conducting a survey by phone from 12 November until 12 December 2018. This is to collect data on mobile phone users in Malaysia and if you’re lucky, your number could be picked for the survey.

According to the official notice, the survey will be conducted only by phone from the MCMC CATI Centre in Cyberjaya. It will be conducted daily from 9AM to 6PM except for national and Selangor public holidays.

According to MCMC, respondents of the survey will be picked by random and participation is totally voluntary. They added that all information obtained will be used for deriving statistics at the national level.

MCMC also emphasises that no money will be collected during the survey. So be alert if someone pretending to be a representative from MCMC tries to sell you something.

Unfortunately, MCMC didn’t provide any details of the phone numbers they are calling from. If you received a call from a random number, there’s a chance that it could be from MCMC.
