The Honor Magic 2 is available from Mobile2Go from RM2,698

The Honor Magic 2 is probably the world’s first smartphone to feature SIX cameras (three at the front and three at the back). The device made its official debut in China earlier this month and is only officially available in China but you don’t have to go all the way there to get on because the Honor Magic 2 is now available in Malaysia from mobile retailer, Mobile2Go.

Mobile2Go is offering three variants of the Magic 2 with three colours available (black, blue and red):
6GB RAM + 128GB ROM @ RM2698
8GB RAM + 128GB ROM @ RM2998
8GB RAM + 256GB ROM @ RM3298

Before you go out to get one, a few words of caution. The units for sale in Malaysia are import sets which mean you’ll only get in-store warranty. The units are China units which means you will have to install Google Services saperately (which will give you access to Google Play store and other common Google apps that are not available in China-only handsets). The people at Mobile2Go will be able to assist you with this.

The Magic 2 is a fullview no-notch device with a unique front camera array that is hidden under a manual slider mechanism. The device features a 6.39-inch AMOLED FullView FullHD+ (2340×1080 pixel) display. To maximise the display area, the front of the Magic 2 is devoid of a fingerprint sensor. Instead, it uses an in-display fingerprint sensor for a clean look. The Magic 2 has a screen to body ratio of 91.5% for comparison, the Mi MIX 3 has a screen to body ratio of 93.4% while the OPPO Find X‘s screen to body ratio is 93.8%.

Elsewhere, the handset uses a familiar design that we’ve seen on the Huawei P20 Pro – thanks to the very iconic three vertically aligned rear camera array. The triple camera module is expected to be a 16MP f/1.8 main shooter, a 24MP f/1.8 monochrome camera and a 16MP f/2.2 wide-angle unit.

At the front, there’s a 16MP f/2.0 main selfie shooter and two additional 2MP f/2.4 cameras for depth sensing, all this is hidden from view thanks to a slider mechanism to make room for the all-display front. The slider mechanism is one of the most unique features of the Magic 2 and unlike the hidden cameras on the Oppo Find X or the Vivo Nex the slider mechanism of the Magic 2 is operated manually.

The Magic 2 is powered by the Huawei’s latest flagship processor, the 7nm Kirin 980 processor with dual NPU (neural processing unit) for better resource and task management. This is the same processor that is currently being used in the recently-launched Mate 20 series.

The honor Magic 2 gets a larger battery than the Mi MIX 3. It has a 3,500mAh capacity battery that supports 40W Magic Charge, which is basically honor’s version of Huawei SuperCharge 2.0. According to honor, the Magic 2 can reach up to 50% charge capacity in just 15 minutes and it can achieve 85% charge capacity in just 30 minutes. You can learn more about the device in our announcement post.

In China, the Magic 2 is priced from 3,799CNY (about RM2,282) for the base 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model, while the 8GB RAM + 128GB option is going for 4,299CNY (about RM2,582). Meanwhile, the range-topping 8GB RAM + 256GB storage model can be yours for 4,799CNY (about RM2,882). That’s quite a bargain considering you’re getting Mate 20 level hardware in a cool looking form factor.
