Nokia is back at it again with their latest Nokia X7

Another month, another Nokia device. It was just a month ago when HMD Global launched their mid-range duo — the Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 5.1 Plus — for the Malaysian market. And now, they’ve released yet another new device, the Nokia X7 specifically for China, and it our experience, it will probably become the Nokia 7.1 Plus when it launches globally.

The Nokia X7 packs a notched 6.18-inch Full HD+ display (2246×1080 pixels)with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. Similar to the Nokia 7.1, the X7 also comes with HMD’s PureDisplay technology. It means that the handset is capable of supporting HDR playback and automatically upscaling the content from SDR to HDR.

Under the hood, the X7 runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 processor clocked at 2.2GHz. The 710 is Qualcomm’s upper-end mid-range processor so you can expect performance to be good. The handset comes in three variants — 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage, 6GB RAM with 64GB internal storage and 6GB RAM with 128GB internal storage. If you’d like to add more storage, you’ll be happy to know that all X7 variants support microSD card expansion up to 400GB.

On the rear, you will find two Zeiss-tuned cameras. The first is a 12MP Sony IMX363 sensor with 1.4µm pixels, a bright f/1.8 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The other is a 13MP depth sensor with a f/2.4 fixed focus lens. Up front, you will find a 20MP selfie camera that allows pixel binning in the dark, which will help the 0.9µm pixels to perform better.

Powering the device is a 3,500mAh battery that supports 18W fast-charging via a USB-C port. Out of the box, the device runs on Android Oreo and since this device is under the Android One program, it gets guaranteed software updates, including the upcoming Android 9.0 Pie. If you are wondering, there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack on board too and that’s a good thing since the headphone jack is becoming increasingly rare to find on phones these days.

Now, for the price. The base version of the X7 (4GB RAM, 64GB) will be priced at CNY 1,700 (around RM 1,020), while the 6GB RAM variant is priced at CNY2,000 (around RM1,200). The top spec version (6GB RAM, 128GB) will cost at CNY 2,500 (RM1,500).

For now, there are no official details on the pricing and availability for the X7 in Malaysia, but you can expect the device to cost slightly higher when it arrives due to taxes and other factors. When the Nokia 6.1 Plus launched in China as the X6, we are expecting that the device will be priced under RM1,000. However, it was rather disappointing to find out that the 6.1 Plus is priced much higher at RM1,149 compared to the price in China which is CNY1,449 (around RM903). That being said, we will keep you posted if there are any developments on the Nokia X7.
