Xiaomi’s quad-camera Redmi Note 6 Pro will launch in Malaysia this week

Xiaomi Malaysia announced that they will be launching the brand new Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro in Malaysia this weekend. This will be the successor to the Redmi Note 5 and it comes with one pretty big change: It has a notch now.

Yup, up front, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro features a 6.26-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with an aspect ratio of 19:9. However, a sizable section right at the top of the device has been taken up by a notch, much like the company’s flagship Mi 8.

Inside, the smartphone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor that’s mated to up to 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. In Malaysia, there will also be an entry-level variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Keeping the lights on is a 4,000 mAh battery that charges via a microUSB port.

For photos, the Redmi Note 6 Pro packs a dual camera setup at the back with a 12MP main sensor with 1.4-micron pixels is supported by a 5MP secondary sensor for depth effects. Additionally, the main camera also has Dual Pixel AF for fast autofocusing. There’s also electronic image stabilisation (EIS) for video recording.

In front, Xiaomi’s new mid-ranger packs an upgraded selfie camera setup. Now, you’ve got a dual camera array with a 20MP main sensor and a 2MP secondary sensor for depth effects. The main sensor is capable of 4-in-1 pixel binning as well as AI features like scene detection and AI dynamic bokeh.

This new dual-camera up front makes this Xiaomi’s first quad-camera smartphone — two in front, two at the back — though it’s not quite like Samsung’s quad-camera smartphone.

As a whole, the Redmi Note 6 Pro doesn’t look like that big of an upgrade over the current Redmi Note 5. In fact, if you hate the notch, the discounted Redmi Note 5 is still a pretty solid choice for a great affordable smartphone.

Unfortunately, Xiaomi Malaysia has not revealed any pricing details for the Redmi Note 6 just yet so you’ll have to stay tuned for that. They did, however, mention that you will be getting free gifts when you purchase this device that consists of a selfie stick and a Mi Band 2.

As usual, more details will be revealed closer to the launch date on the 20th of October 2018, so stay tuned for that.
