OPPO’s R15X is a bigger (possibly better) and more affordable R15 Pro

Earlier this year, we’ve saw the OPPO R15 Pro launch and it was stunning. It has a nice gradient design and it comes with some respectable specs. But now, it looks like OPPO is launching yet another device in their R15 lineup and it is called the OPPO R15X. The interesting thing is that it is very similar to the R15 Pro, only at a much more affordable price point.

We saw this smartphone make an appearance earlier on the Chinese regulatory agency TENAA under the code name PBCM10. Then, the same smartphone was spotted on China Telecom’s website, only this time it’s called the OPPO R15X.

In terms of its specs, the OPPO R15X will feature a 6.4-inch Full HD+ display that pushes a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels. Based on the images seen on the website, it looks like the OPPO R15X will adopt a water drop notch, similar to the one we saw on the vivo V11. Besides that, the handset has a 91% screen-to-body ratio, with minimal bezels and it is also protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5.

Powering the device is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor mated to 4GB or 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage that can be expanded via a microSD card. Keeping the lights on is a 3,500mAh battery. For photography, the OPPO R15X will have a dual rear camera module with a 16MP primary and 2MP secondary sensor for bokeh effects. At the front, it gets a 25MP for selfies.

As per listing, the 4GB model of the R15X will be priced at CNY2,499 (around RM1,500) while the 6GB RAM variant is priced at CNY2,599 (around RM1,560). The colour options of the device include Ice Silver and Nebula gradient.

In comparison, the RM2,399 R15 Pro comes with a 6.28-inch Full HD+ OLED display, Snapdragon 660, 6GB of RAM as well as 128GB of expandable storage. From what we’ve seen, the only real sacrifice one would have to make, opting for the R15X instead of the R15 Pro is its main camera, where the R15 Pro has a more capable (on paper) 16MP+20MP dual camera at the back. In front, however, the R15 Pro suffers in resolution compared to the more affordable R15X, as it only packs a 20MP selfie shooter. The R15X is also rumoured to feature an in-display fingerprint scanner, something the R15 Pro doesn’t.

However, since OPPO has made no official announcment regarding this device just yet, you should take all of this information with a pinch of salt.
