OnePlus is expected to release another smartphone before the year is out. Similar to last year, there will be an updated “T” model for the current OnePlus 6. The hardware underneath should remain about the same but you could expect a larger display and possibly a bigger battery with the upcoming OnePlus 6T.
Ahead of the official announcement, serial leakster @onleaks has released a couple of device renders of the device plus a 360 degree video for a better view. The bezels appear to be thinner which gives it a higher screen to body ratio.
In the past few releases, the new OnePlus models are based on the latest OPPO R series. Surprisingly, instead of having a triple camera setup like the new OPPO R17 Pro, the OnePlus 6T is still having a dual-camera setup and it shares the same camera bump as the current OnePlus 6.
In front, it is expected to come with a large 6.4″ Full HD+ screen that features a tiny “waterdrop” notch, like the OPPO R17 Pro. This is the biggest OnePlus flagship yet and the display is just 0.1″ smaller than the iPhone XS Max.
What’s missing is a rear-fingerprint sensor. This is an indication that OnePlus will be using an in-display fingerprint sensor. It probably won’t perform as fast as a typical fingerprint sensor but you can also unlock the phone quickly via facial recognition.
An unfortunate omission is the 3.5mm headphone jack which would definitely piss some fans off. All OnePlus smartphones always come with a headphone jack included and the OnePlus 6T would be their first device to push audio physically via the USB-C port. At the very least, we expect OnePlus to throw in a 3.5mm to USB-C dongle and it would be interesting to see if OnePlus would introduce new USB-C based headphones.
Another interesting thing to note is that the OnePlus 6T is reported to be thicker at 8.2mm (8.6mm at the thickest point with the camera bump). It can’t be confirmed but this may be an indication that the device will have a larger battery capacity. As a comparison, the current OnePlus 6 with a 3,300mAh battery is 7.8m thick. As usual, you can also expect fast charging via its 5V4.5A brick.
The rest of the specs are similar to their current flagship. You’ll still get a Snapdragon 845 processor with RAM and storage options of up to 8GB RAM and 256GB respectively. In terms of pricing, it will definitely be above the RM2,000 mark if it launches in Malaysia. The current OnePlus 6 was launched locally from RM2,399 for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model and it goes all the way up to RM3,099 for the range topping 8GB RAM + 256GB storage option.
