200 early bird iPhone XS customers walked away with a Huawei freebie

Apple fans in Singapore who are in line for the latest iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max were greeted with a surprise last night. From the looks of it, it seems like one of Apple’s competitor have hijacked their first sale event.

About 11 pm, Huawei promoters were seen giving out their power banks to those who were lining up for the brand new iPhone. Just in case you are wondering, this isn’t your typical cheap power bank. Instead, they were actually giving away their SuperCharge 10,000mAh power bank that retails for RM256. This can charge the P20 Pro and Mate 10 Pro to 58% in just 30 minutes. It was reported that Huawei had distributed about 200 units and each of them has a note that reads “Here’s a power bank. You’ll need it. Courtesy of Huawei.”

I think it is a pretty nice gesture from Huawei to be giving out their power banks to people who are waiting in line to buy the new iPhones. Sure it’s a cheeky bit of guerilla marketing, but at the end of the day at least they are walking away with something useful. It’s certainly a more wholesome approach than what BlackBerry did in 2012.
