Got an SST-related complaint? Just report it via WhatsApp

Effective 1 September, Malaysia had switched from GST to SST. This tax system is said to be more people friendly and it should bring down the cost of living for majority of Malaysians. However, if you feel ripped-off by unscrupulous traders, consumers are urged to file a complaint for further action.

To make it even easier to report a potential offence, you can report SST-related complaints via a simple text message to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNKK) on WhatsApp.

All you’ll need to do is to save this number 019-2794317 to your phone and you can buzz them on WhatsApp if you face issues related to SST. Just make sure to include the following in your message:

1. Full Name
2. Copy of receipt
3. Name of business that you wish to report

Alternatively, you can also file your complaint via the eAduan portal. There’s also an ezADU app that’s available for both iOS and Android,

According to Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, action will be taken within 24 hours. Since SST was introduced, it was reported that his ministry had received 642 complaints via WhatsApp and most of them were on the F&B industry.

The next time you find a business that raised their prices for no apparent reason, don’t just post it up on social media. Do report it so that the authorities can take further action.
