Apple will be introducing their latest 2018 iPhone models in less than 13 days time which will replace its current iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. The next device will be based on the iPhone X and you can expect a couple of upgrades thrown in. The folks at 9to5mac claim to have an exclusive image of the purported iPhone XS and it will come in two sizes.
Based on the image above, you can see that the next iPhone XS and XS Plus will look similar to their current flagship. While the current iPhone X comes only in two colours – Space Grey and Silver, the new one will also be available in Gold as indicated by the colour of the frame.
Both devices are still using OLED for the display and it will come in both 5.8″ and 6.5″ sizes. We reckon the iPhone XS Plus with its 6.5″ screen will likely have a similar size to its current iPhone 8 Plus. While it retains the same edge to edge all-screen design, you can see an earpiece and camera module on the smaller iPhone XS that’s stacked above. Apart from these two, Apple is expected to introduce a cheaper version which will feature a 6.1″ LCD display.
Finally, there’s also the new Apple Watch. In its past three generations (including the updated Series 1), the design of the world’s best selling smartwatch has remained unchanged with 38mm and 42mm sizes. According to 9toMac which obtained exclusive info, the new Series 4 will get a newer edge to edge display with thinner bezels. This offers 15% larger screen for both case sizes and from the image above, it retains the design including the digital crown on the sides.
The new Apple Watch will also support new watch faces and the image above suggests that it can support up to 8 complications. We can’t confirm but it looks like you should be able to use your existing Watchbands.
The iPhone XS and iPhone XS Plus will be revealed at a special Apple event on 12 September (13 September at 1AM Malaysian Time). As usual, the iPhone launch event will be streamed live and pre-orders for first wave countries will start by the end of that week, followed by full availability a week later. For us in Malaysia, we reckon that we could be getting the new iPhone models officially as early as October unless the Cupertino company bumps Malaysia into their first wave list. The current iPhone models were available here within 3-5 weeks after Singapore.
The 5.8″ iPhone X was the most expensive model yet from RM5,149 for the base 64GB model and it turns out to be Apple’s best seller for consecutive quarters. With the larger 6.5″ iPhone XS Plus, this could be Apple’s most expensive iPhone yet. What do you think? Will Apple push this beyond the RM6,000 mark? Or will it be priced lower since it replaces the current mainstream iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus? Let us know in the comments below.
