This is the Sony Xperia XZ3 and it has a bigger screen

Ahead of Sony’s media event at IFA 2018, the Xperia XZ3 is now revealed thanks to Roland Quandt. This is Sony Mobile’s latest flagship smartphone which looks like an incremental update to its current Xperia XZ2 that was launched during MWC 2018.

In terms of design, it looks similar to the current Xperia XZ2 series with an 18:9 display upfront along with a curved glass back. The Xperia XZ3 is now slightly bigger with a 6″ P-OLED display that pushes a resolution of 2880×1440. As usual, it comes with two front-facing speakers for stereo audio playback.

According to Roland, the side panels around the display of the Xperia XZ3 are touch sensitive. This could be used to activate certain shortcuts like HTC’s EdgeSense feature. As seen from the renders, the Xperia XZ3 still retains a dedicated camera shutter button and from certain angles, it looks like it has a dual curved display. This could be an illusion of its curved glass panel design.

Powering this new flagship smartphone is a Snapdragon 845 processor that’s said to be mated to 4GB of RAM and has 64GB of internal storage. In the camera department, the rear only gets a single 19MP shooter while the front gets a 13MP selfie camera. So far there are no further details of its main camera sensor.

While most manufacturers are upsizing the batteries on their flagship models, the Xperia XZ3 appears to come with a 3,300mAh unit. It’s still considered an upgrade since the current Xperia XZ2 comes with a smaller 3,180mAh battery. In terms of OS, this could be the first smartphone to launch with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, beating Google’s very own Pixel 3.

Roland has added that the Xperia XZ3 is expected to be priced around 800 Euros (about RM3,864) and of course, it will carry a lower price tag when it’s sold in Malaysia. The device will be available in 4 colours which include “Bordeaux Red” and “Forest Green”. The Sony Mobile event is taking place at 7PM tonight and you can watch it live here.
