Celcom Axiata Berhad has just appointed a new CEO which will take effect from 1 September 2018. Mohamad Idham Nawawi who is currently the Group Chief Corporate Officer (GCCO) of Axiata Group Berhad will take over the role from the current CEO, Michael Kuehner, whose tenure will end on 31 August 2018.
According to Axiata, this succession is part of their original plan two years ago to appoint an internal talent for the next phrase of transformation. Michael is credited for transforming Celcom into a digital organisation and had driven improvements in several areas including products, services and network.
Idham, the incoming CEO, is a veteran in the telecommunications industry. Before joining Axiata, he was the COO of P1 and he also took the role of Head of Strategy for Axis Telekom in Indonesia. Idham also held senior positions at Maxis in various roles including Enterprise Business for mobile and fixed services. He had started his career at Carl Zeiss Inc in the USA before joining IBM in Malaysia.
