Xiaomi will be announcing a couple of devices on 25 June and one of it is yet another mid-range smartphone. After introducing the Redmi 5 Plus and Redmi 5 Note series, the next device will be the Redmi 6 Pro. This is the first Redmi series to come with a notch display.
Ahead of the event, Xiaomi has published images of the Redmi 6 Pro on its official Weibo account. The front looks a Huawei Nova 3e with its 5.84″ display while the rear retains the same Redmi Note 5 back design featuring an iPhone X inspired dual-camera bump.
For those who hate the notch, Xiaomi wants you to know that you can turn it off. From the official renders above, the Redmi 6 Pro will come in 5 colour options – Black, Red, Blue, Pink and Gold. The Redmi Pro which was announced in 2016 was more of a flagship Redmi device but this new Redmi 6 Pro model looks more like a rehash of the Redmi 5 Plus.
A Chinese site has managed to get a couple of live photos of the device along with its purported specs. According to them, the Redmi 6 Pro’s 5.84″ display pushes a 2280×1080 resolution which is identical to the Nova 3e. Under the hood, it runs on a familiar Snapdragon 625 processor that’s mated to 4GB of RAM.
For taking pictures, it comes with a 5MP selfie camera while the back features a 13MP + 5MP camera combo that is powered by AI. Similar to the Redmi 5 Plus and Redmi Note 5, it also gets a 4,000mAh battery that charges via microUSB.
If we look at the specs and the design, this could be released as the Mi A2 Lite which was spotted on our SIRIM database last week. The Mi 6X with a Snapdragon 660 processor is expected to be announced as the Xiaomi’s next Android One device and this new model could end up as their cheaper alternative.
