Xiaomi is launching the Mi 8 end of this month

After announcing the Mi MIX 2S flagship two months ago, Xiaomi is about to announce the successor of the Mi 6. For their next flagship, it won’t be called the Mi 7 and the launch is taking place next Thursday.

Based on a tweet by Xiaomi’s global Director for Product Management, their next flagship is definitely the Mi 8 and it will be unveiled in Shenzhen on 31 May. If you’re wondering why they skip number 7, it’s because Xiaomi is celebrating their 8th anniversary this year.

Nothing much has been revealed for the Mi 8 but we can safely assume that it will come with a top of the line Snapdragon 845 processor that comes with up to 8GB of RAM. Word has it that it might come with an embedded on-screen fingerprint sensor. A purported video demonstrating the feature on the Mi 8 had surfaced online and you can see it in action here:

The Mi 8 is said to come with a larger 4,000mAh battery and it will support wireless charging as well. Like the Mi MIX 2S, storage is expected to come with at least 64GB onboard and it goes all the way up to 256GB with no expandable option. If you’ve been following Xiaomi flagship smartphones, you can expect this to be one of the most affordable flagship smartphones in the market.

More details shall be revealed next week so stay tuned for the latest updates.
