This is Samsung’s most affordable smartphone with an Infinity Display

Samsung’s Infinity Display was first introduced on the Galaxy S8 and it offered an immersive viewing experience thanks to its wider 18.5:9 aspect ratio. While other smartphone makers are trying to maximise its display with a notch, Samsung has gone with a more symmetrical approach by trimming the bezels as much as possible.

This form of display has trickled down to its more affordable Galaxy A8 and A6 series and it looks like it’s also coming to its entry-level Galaxy J series.

The device you’re seeing here is supposedly the Galaxy J6 and it’s poised to be the most affordable Samsung smartphone with a “FullView” display. Unlike its more expensive models, the Galaxy J6 bezels are noticeably thicker and body uses plastic instead of glass or metal.

From what we’ve seen so far, the Galaxy J6 is likely to come with a 5.6″ AMOLED display but it pushes a lower 1,480×720 resolution. This is similar to the smaller Galaxy A6 that was revealed two weeks ago.

The Galaxy J6 also gets a 13MP main camera at the rear and a front-facing 8MP selfie shooter that has its own selfie flash. Since the screen dominates the entire front of the device, the Galaxy J6 will get a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor that’s placed underneath its main camera.

In terms of battery, it will get a 3,000mAh capacity unit and it still charges via a traditional microUSB port. As you would expect with any new phones, it runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box with Samsung’s latest Experience 9.0 UI on top.

Over in India, word has it that the Galaxy J6 will launch on 25 May with two spec options – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. The lower spec version is expected to be priced at Rs 13,990 (about RM813) while the 4GB RAM model is going for Rs 16,490 (about RM959). The Galaxy J6 was recently spotted on SIRIM so it should be hitting Malaysia soon.
