ASUS has a new sub-RM500 phone that could rival the Redmi 5A

ASUS has finally gotten their mid-range segment covered with its ZenFone Max Pro. It’s a stock Android smartphone that packs a lot of great specs for less than RM1,000. However, if you’re looking for something cheaper, ASUS has just announced the ZenFone Live L1. This is their new entry-level smartphone which has a variant that runs on Android Go.

The ZenFone Live L1 is the successor of the previous ZenFone Live which came with live video beautification. The new device comes with a 5.5″ 18:9 display that pushes a modest 1,440×720 pixels resolution.

Under the hood, it runs on a Quad-Core Snapdragon 425 processor that’s mated to either 1GB or 2GB of RAM and it comes with 16GB of expandable storage. The unit with 2GB of RAM will run on ZenUI 5.0 that’s based on Android 8.0 Oreo, while the 1GB RAM version will get lightweight Android Oreo Go Edition which is similar to the Nokia 1.

Being an entry-level device, it gets a 13MP main camera with PDAF, while the front comes with a 5MP selfie shooter. While it doesn’t come with a fingerprint sensor, the ZenFone Live L1 does support Face Unlock. It is also a dual-SIM device that comes with its own dedicated microSD expansion slot which supports up to 2TB. Powering the device is a 3,000mAh battery which charges via microUSB.

At the moment, ASUS Indonesia has yet to provide further details of the phone on their website and social feed. According to the source, the ZenFone Live L1 is expected to be priced under Rp1,500,000 (less than RM450) which puts it head to head with the Xiaomi Redmi 5A. Overall, the specs are quite similar but the ZenFone Live L1 comes with a larger display.
