The two-year-old Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are getting a major software update with the arrival Android 8.0 Oreo. It’s currently being rolled out in the UK and it shouldn’t take too long for it to trickle down to more countries including Malaysia.
The new firmware for the UK carries the version number G930FXXU2ERD5 for the S7 and G935FXXU2ERD5 for the S7 edge. Apart from having the latest OS, the update also brings the latest Samsung Experience version 9.0 and it also comes with the latest April security update.
The firmware is about 1.2GB in size so it is advisable to download with an unmetered WiFi connection. For Malaysian users, we expect the update to be available very soon and you can try checking manually in the next couple of days by going to Settings and tap on “Software update” at the bottom of the page.
Before this, Samsung has already pushed Android 8.0 Oreo update for Galaxy Note8 owners last month while Galaxy S8/S8+ users have received theirs in mid-February. The Galaxy A (2017) is also expected to be upgraded as well.
