Been waiting for HTC Malaysia to finally launch their affordable mid-range handsets, the Desire 12 and Desire 12+, locally? You won’t have to wait much longer because the handset is finally coming this week. And if you’re quick, you can get it at up to RM170 off.
The more capable HTC Desire 12+ will officially retail for RM899 while the smaller Desire 12 will have an RRP of RM739. However, HTC will be having an online-exclusive pre-order promo on Shopee.my where you can pre-order the Desire 12+ for RM729 and the Desire 12 for RM599 instead. This is in conjunction with their official e-store launch and the offer will only be valid for a limited time. If you’re interested, the offer will go live at 9am on the 26th of April 2018 (this Thursday).
To recap, the HTC Desire 12 and 12+ are the company’s new affordable mid-range handsets. Their big selling feature is the massive new 18:9 aspect ratio display.
On the Desire 12+, you’re getting a 6″ IPS LCD panel while the Desire 12 gets a smaller 5.5″ IPS LCD display instead. Both, however, are pushing a resolution of HD+ 1440×720 pixels.
Inside, the Desire 12+ features a Snapdragon 450 processor with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage (expandable via a microSD card) while the Desire 12 swaps the Snapdragon processor for a MediaTek quad-core MT6739 chip instead. Battery capacity also varies between the two, with the Desire 12+ packing a larger 2,965 mAh cell while the Desire 12 has a 2,730 mAh battery instead. Both of them charge via microUSB.
The biggest differentiating factor, besides its size, is the camera. For the Desire 12+, you get a dual-camera setup with a 13MP f/2.2 main shooter paired with a 2MP camera at the back for depth effects.
In front, you get an 8MP f/2.0 selfie shooter with beautification features and an LED flash.
On the Desire 12, you’re only getting a single 13MP f/2.2 aperture main camera with Phase Detection AF while a 5MP f/2.4 aperture selfie camera graces the front of the phone.
In terms of security, the Desire 12+ gets a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner while the Desire 12 does not. That said, both do come with a “Liquid Surface” design which uses a “durable acrylic glass” back with a “seamless” frame that features curved edges inspired by the HTC U11.
