Motorola’s introduces its affordable G6 and E5 series with 18:9 Max Vision display

After countless of leaks, the latest Moto G6 and Moto E5 series are finally official. These are Motorola’s mid-range and entry-level smartphones and they succeed the current Moto G5s and Moto E4 lineup. Like most new smartphones launched this year, mosr of them feature a taller 18:9 display which Moto calls Max Vision.

Moto G6 Plus

Sitting at the top of the range is the Moto G6 Plus. It has a 5.9″ Full HD+ IPS display with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Under the hood, it runs on a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 630 processor that’s mated to either 4GB or 6GB of RAM and has 64GB of expandable storage.

For taking pictures, it gets a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera setup that features a dual autofocus pixel and a fast f/1.7 aperture. It comes with a host of smart camera modes like the previous Moto G5s Plus and it can also shoot 4K videos. For the front, it gets an 8MP camera that has a manual mode and beautification features.

For audio, it gets a front facing loudspeaker that’s enhanced by Dolby and it also comes with a headphone jack. Powering the device is a 3,200mAh battery which supports TurboPower charging via USB-C. In Europe, it’s going for 299EUR which is about RM1,435.

Moto G6

For something more compact, the Moto G6 has a smaller 5.7″ Full HD+ display and it gets a Snapdragon 450 processor. It comes with a choice of 3GB or 4GB of RAM with storage options of 32GB and 64GB onboard which is expandable via microSD.

It comes with a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera setup with f/1.8 aperture, while the front gets an 8MP selfie shooter. Like the G6 Plus, it also gets a front loudspeaker with Dolby Audio enhancement.

Juicing up the Moto G6 is a 3,000mAh battery which also supports TurboPower charging via its USB-C port. It is officially priced at US$249 which is about RM968.

Moto G6 Play

The Moto G6 Play is the most affordable of the series but it gets a much bigger battery. Over at the front, it also gets a 5.7″ 18:9 display but it pushes a lower HD+ 720p resolution. Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 427 processor that’s mated to either 2GB or 3GB of RAM. It has smaller storage options of 16GB and 32GB which are also expandable via microSD.

In the imaging department, it gets a single 13MP f/2.0 main camera that can shoot 1080p videos, while the front comes with a 5MP selfie shooter. It also gets a front facing loudspeaker. Unlike the G6 and G6 Plus, it uses polymer glass for the rear instead of 3D glass. Another interesting feature is its multi-function fingerprint sensor which is now embedded in the Moto logo at the rear.

Juicing up the Moto G6 Play is a 4,000mAh battery which charges via microUSB. It’s officially priced at US$199 which is equivalent to RM774 if converted directly. The entire Moto G6 series is running on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

Moto E5 Plus

Moving down to the affordable E series, the E5 Plus offers a large screen experience and a huge battery that is rated to last up to 1.5 days. It gets a 6″ HD+ display in an 18:9 aspect ratio. Underneath its reflective wave pattern back is a Snapdragon 425 processor that’s mated to 3GB of RAM. It gets a decent 32GB of storage which is expandable via microSD.

The E5 Plus gets a single 12MP f/2.0 main camera with PDAF while the front comes with an 8MP f/2.2 selfie camera. Juicing up this device is a large 5,000mAh battery which supports Moto’s 15W TurboPower charger via MicroUSB. It’s officially priced at 169EUR in Europe which is about RM811.

Moto E5

Meanwhile, the Moto E5 is their 5.7″ budget smartphone that also comes with a HD+ display in an 18:9 aspect ratio. It also runs on a Snapdragon 425 processor but it’s mated to just 2GB of RAM and has 16GB of storage.

There’s a 13MP f/2.0 PDAF main camera, a 5MP selfie shooter and a 4,000mAh battery that charges via microUSB. It comes with a 149 EUR price tag which converts to RM715.

Moto E5 Play

The most affordable of the lot would be the Moto E5 Play. It has a smaller 5.2″ HD (1280×720) display and it runs on a Snapdragon 425/427 processor with 2GB of RAM and has 16GB of storage. It gets a basic 8MP f/2.0 main camera, a 5MP selfie shooter and a smaller 2,800mAh battery which is removable. Despite being the most affordable device in the range, it also gets a fingerprint sensor that’s embedded in the rear Moto logo. There’s no pricing yet but it will be rolled out in the US in the next few months to come.
