Adapt practically any lens to your smartphone with this adapter

We’ve seen some epic lens mounts and adapters for smartphones before. Just recently Moment released their anamorphic lens on Kickstarter, but what we’re seeing here has to be one of the most ridiculous.

Ridiculously awesome, I mean.

This adapter is from Chinese company Cinematic International Company Limited and it is basically a single universal adapter and rig for your smartphone. The idea is, you strap the grip to your phone, strap the adapter to the grip and strap whatever lens you want to the adapter.

In a sense, it’s sort of like the Beastgrip Pro but with the edge of universality. According to the spokesperson, the adapter will work with pretty much any lens and you can strap it to pretty much any phone because of how adjustable it is. No Film School asked the spokesperson what kind of lenses this thing would support, her answer was literally “uhm, it’s too many”.

Now that’s a lovely phrase.

Unfortunately, there is no further information about this adapter, nor is there any word on pricing or availability.

That said, as we see more and more content being shot on smartphones — as well as the continued improvement of the smartphone camera — these tools may just end up becoming more common than you might expect.  People are already shooting feature films on iPhones. However, it is worth pointing out that no matter how good the glass you strap onto an adapter, the end result will always hinge on how good your smartphone’s own lens is because all the light will have to pass through that.

It’s not like a DSLR or film camera that has nothing standing between the lens and the sensor or film. Still, with people like LG putting glass elements into their smartphone camera modules, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before more follow suit.

What do you guys think of this adapter? Let us know in the comments below!
