BlackBerry as a smartphone brand is still alive and kicking with TCL taking charge of the device business. After introducing the water-resistant BlackBerry Motion, a new BlackBerry device that will replace the QWERTY KEYone could be announced very soon. A couple of high-quality renders have appeared online which gives us a clear look at the new Android-powered Blackberry device that carries the codename Athena.
Being a successor to the KEYone, it retains BlackBerry’s signature QWERTY keyboard that also doubles up as a trackpad. The keyboard itself looks slightly different and there’s a BlackBerry logo on the spacebar which doubles up as a fingerprint sensor. The overall phone looks more squarish with sharper edges compared to the current KEYone.
Over at the rear, you get a familiar rubber texture back but the new device is now having dual-cameras that are positioned at the top left corner. Interestingly, the volume rocker, power and convenience keys are now placed on the right side of the device. There’s still a headphone jack at the top and it uses USB Type-C for fast charging and data transfer.
In terms of naming, it isn’t clear if the next device is going to be called the KEYtwo or a KEYone 2. Or maybe they will just call it the BlackBerry KEYone 2018. What do you think? Let us know in the comments down below.
