The next HTC flagship smartphone could launch next month and it will come with dual-cameras

HTC is one of the first manufacturers to introduce dual cameras on a smartphone. There’s the HTC One M8 and if you want to go further, they also had the EVO 3D which can capture video and stills in 3D with its dual-camera setup.

While the competition had jumped on the dual-camera bandwagon, HTC has stuck with having a single camera for the rear since the HTC 10. According to its former president, HTC will be releasing dual-camera smartphones in 2018 but they will need to figure out how to make it stand out from the rest.

According to this new leak, it looks like HTC has finally nailed it and the new dual-camera flagship could be announced in April this year.

Based on @LlabTooFeR‘s tweet, the next flagship from HTC will feature dual-cameras at the rear using 12MP + 16MP Sony sensors. The device carries the codename HTC Imagine and it might be called the HTC U12. It will come with a 5.99″ QuadHD+ display and it runs on the latest Snapdragon 845 processor that’s mated with 6GB of RAM.

The spec sheet continues with internal storage of up to 256GB and it has an 8MP selfie camera. Juicing up this new flagship is a 3,420mAh battery, which is surprisingly smaller than the 6″ HTC U11+ which has a 3,930mAh battery.

HTC’s squeeze feature is still there but updated with Edge Sense 2.0 and it will also come with HTC Face Unlock feature. Also included as standard is IP68 dust and water resistance. Out of the box, it is said to be running on Android 8.0 + Sense 10 with full treble support for faster Android updates.

A prototype of this HTC Imagine had appeared at a 5G showcase in Taiwan recently. While parts of the phone were taped up, the display appears to have curved edges and it has an 18:9 display aspect ratio. During the demo, the device was shown doing high-speeds of over 800Mbps over 4G LTE-Advanced.

Now the biggest question is, how will HTC do dual-cameras differently from the rest? Will it be for telephoto and wide-angle? RGB + Monochrome? or something completely new? Let us know what you think in the comments down below.
