Huawei’s new customer-premises equipment to set new standards for 5G

Huawei launched released their Huawei 5G customer-premises equipment (CPE) today at MWC 2018, marking it the world’s first commercial terminal device to support 3GPP telecommunication standards for 5G.

The brand has also developed the world’s first commercial chipset to support the 3GPP standard for 5G, their self-developed Balong 5G01 chipset, that has a theoretical downlink speed of up to 2.3Gbps. This chip also makes Huawei the first company to offer an end-to end 5G solution through their network, devices and chipset-level capabilities, and their 5G CPE comes in two models.

The low-frequency model runs sub6GHz 5G CPE while the high-frequency one runs mmWave 5G CPE respectively, with the former being small and lightweight, compatible with 4G and 5G networks and the latter being available as indoor or outdoor units.

As 5G networks set new standards for highspeed, wide bandwidth and low latency wireless connections, the potential for the Internet of Things devices goes up as well and will provide a richer experience for users as a whole.

Huawei has partnered up with over 30 global telecomm carriers, including Vodafone, Softbank, T-Mobile, BT, Telefonica, China Mobile and China Telecom and is set to offer the first round of 5G commercial networks this year.
