UPDATE: The official Malaysian pricing of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ has been revealed.

With every new flagship smartphone release, one of the biggest concerns is the price. Just last year alone, the iPhone X has breached the RM5,000 mark, while Samsung’s latest and greatest Galaxy Note8 is priced just a hair below RM4,000. In just a few days, Samsung will be unveiling its new Galaxy S9/S9+ duo and now we have a rough indication of what the price could be.

According to serial leakster @evleaks, the Galaxy S9/S9+ would be priced at 841 EUR (about RM4,036) and 997 EUR (about RM4,785) respectively. It sounds like a staggering amount but it’s common to see higher prices in Europe when compared to Malaysia. As a comparison, the Galaxy Note8 is priced at 999 EUR (about RM4,796) but it retails at only RM3,999 in Malaysia. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S8/S8+ were officially announced in Malaysia at RM3,299 and RM3,699 respectively, and it’s recently slashed by RM600.

Excuse my shitty danish/norwegian: The Galaxy S9 (64GB) will cost 8790 NOK in Norway, Galaxy S9+ (64GB) will be 9790 NOK. Launching in Midnight Black, Coral Blue and Lilac Purple (in Norway). Pricing is up 1200/1300 NOK compared to S8/S8+. https://t.co/Lapgi5Kla2

Over at Norway, where it’s priced higher than mainland Europe, the Galaxy S9 is said to be priced at 8,790 NOK (about RM4,359), while the bigger S9+ is priced at 9,790 NOK (about RM4,855). As a reference, the Galaxy Note8 is priced at 9,990 NOK (about RM4,951).

So how much will it cost in Malaysia? Looking at the price difference with the Galaxy Note8 as a benchmark, it is clear that the Galaxy S9/S9+ would cost more than the current Galaxy S8/S8+ models but it won’t be higher than the Galaxy Note8. The larger Galaxy S9+ would be priced pretty close to the Galaxy Note8 and it could hover around RM3,899-RM3,999. For the smaller Galaxy S9, we are guessing that it could be priced around RM3,399-RM3,599.

Of course, there’s a chance that Samsung Malaysia might have a different pricing strategy for the latest flagships. The Galaxy A8/A8+ is a great example whereby the smaller A8 is priced much lower at RM1,799 while the larger A8+ model is priced significantly higher at RM2,499. If Samsung plans to position the Galaxy S9+ higher than the Galaxy Note8, we hope that it packs better specs with either 128GB or 256GB of onboard storage.
