Samsung had started rolling out its Android 8.0 Oreo update for Galaxy S8/S8+ users just before Chinese New Year. Unfortunately, they had to suspend it the next day due to some issues affecting some users.
For those who didn’t hit the download button on time, Samsung has finally resumed its software update roll out and it should reach Malaysian units very soon.
Samsung is reported to push a newer update that carries the firmware version G950FXXU1CRB7 for the Galaxy S8 and G955XXU1CRB7 for the Galaxy S8+. If you’ve already updated to Android 8.0, the new firmware weighs about 530MB and it could be more than 1GB for those who are still on Android 7.0.
At the moment, it is being pushed to Galaxy S8/S8+ units in Germany and it shouldn’t take too long for it to trickle down to the rest of the world. You can check if it’s available in the next few days by going into Settings and then tap on “Software update” at the bottom of the page. As usual, we recommend performing a backup of your phone before you update your device. Since this is a major jump from Nougat to Oreo, you might need to perform a full factory reset if you face major issues after upgrading.
