ASUS is unveiling its new ZenFone 5 series next week during Mobile World Congress 2018. Serial leakster @evleaks had earlier shared a couple of renders that is alleged to be the ZenFone 5 Lite that comes with a total of four cameras. Prior to that, we’ve seen a couple of renders that feature an iPhone X-style camera bump which is alleged to be the standard ZenFone 5 model. Now here’s another device which claims to be the ZenFone 5 and it comes with another iPhone X design feature.
A live photo has emerged which claims to be a variant of the new ZenFone 5 series. It has a similar edge to edge like display but with a notch that’s slightly narrower than the iPhone X. As you can see in the photo below, the right side of the device has your usual volume rocker and power button.
This new image matches WinFuture’s illustration as shown below. The front notch appears to only house the camera, proximity sensor and an earpiece, so we don’t expect any fancy infrared camera for facial unlock. Instead, ASUS is still retaining a fingerprint sensor that’s mounted at the back. It’s a possibility that this could be the higher-spec or deluxe model in the ZenFone 5 family.
UPDATE: A new ASUS device with high-end specs was spotted on Antutu.
The device carries the model number Z01RD and it comes with a Snapdragon 845 processor that’s mated to 6GB of RAM. The display is listed with a 2,246 x 1080 resolution which is wider than the conventional 18:9 display aspect ratio. Strangely, the on board storage is listed with just 32GB and it’s a possibility that this is just a prototype unit and the final version might come with a higher capacity.
The ASUS #backto5 event is taking place on 27 February 2018. It will be streamed live at 2.30AM on 28 February, Malaysian time. We will be heading to Barcelona, so stay tuned to us for the latest MWC 2018 updates.
