ASUS challenges the Huawei Nova 2i with a smartphone with 4 cameras

ASUS will be announcing its new ZenFone 5 series at MWC 2018. With just 16 days to go, serial leakster @evleaks has dropped a couple of images of ZenFone 5 Lite and it looks like a challenger to Huawei’s Nova 2i.

From the image above, the ZenFone 5 Lite will get a vertically mounted dual-camera module that’s aligned in the middle with its rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. Like most smartphones today, it will get a “FullView” 18:9 display and @evleaks has shared that it will push a FullHD+ resolution.

What’s interesting are the specs of the camera. Like the Huawei Nova 2i, the ZenFone 5 Lite comes with dual-cameras for the front and back. Instead of having a lower resolution 2MP for the secondary unit, the ZenFone 5 Lite is said to have dual-20MP cameras for selfies and dual-16MP cameras for the rear.

This could be used for wide-angle or tele-photo, or perhaps it could be an RGB + Monochrome configuration. In terms of colours, it will be available in Midnight Black, Moonlight White and Rouge Red.

There are no details of the hardware specs but judging from its MWC 2018 invitation, it should be running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. ASUS is expected to release more variants of the ZenFone 5 and one of it could feature an iPhone-X like camera bump.

The ASUS ZenFone 5 event is taking place on 27 February in Barcelona and it will be streamed live on their website.
