OPPO Malaysia is introducing a “Full Screen” selfie expert smartphone priced under RM1,000

If you’re looking for a selfie-centric smartphone with a tall 18:9 “Full Screen”, the OPPO F5 series is quite extensive. You have the affordable OPPO F5 Youth that’s priced at RM1,098, a standard OPPO F5 model at RM1,298 and the highest spec OPPO F5 with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage at RM1,698.

For those looking for something more affordable, the cheaper OPPO A83 is coming to Malaysia next week.

The OPPO A83 gets a 5.7″ HD+ (1440×720) display which is a notch below the 6.0″ Full HD+ screen of the OPPO F5 series. Under the hood, it still runs on the same MediaTek MT6763T (Helio P23) processor and it comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage which is expandable using a microSD card.

For taking photos, the front gets an 8MP f/2.2 camera with AI beauty recognition technology, while the back gets a 13MP f/2.2 main shooter that’s capable of producing 50MP photos in “Ultra-HD” mode.

Unfortunately, it lacks a fingerprint sensor but it gets facial unlock that’s similar to its OPPO F5 series. Powering the device is a 3,180mAh battery which charges via MicroUSB. Out of the box, it runs on Android 7.1 Nougat with ColorOS 3.2 skin on top.

The OPPO A83 will carry an official price tag of RM999 according to authorised retailer DirectD. It will be on sale in Malaysia starting 23rd January and it comes in Gold and Black. Around the same price range, the OPPO A83 will compete against the ASUS ZenFone Max Plus (RM899) and the honor 7X (RM1,099).
