If you get bad mobile reception at home or while at work, the Huawei Mate 10/Mate 10 Pro will soon let you make crystal clear voice calls if you’re connected to WiFi. The Chinese smartphone maker has announced that they are enabling VoWiFi on its latest flagship in Malaysia.
VoWiFi (Voice over WiFi) or also known as WiFi Calling, is a feature which allows you to make and receive voice calls through your current WiFi connection. This is useful in areas with very poor reception especially in high-dense buildings or in new areas where there’s no mobile coverage.
As long as you’re connected to WiFi, you’ll have no problems making and receiving phone calls and SMS. It is similar to VoLTE (Voice over LTE) but it uses WiFi instead. When travelling overseas, calls made with VoWiFi will be charged at local rates. Not only you get clearer calls, you can also avoid paying for expensive roaming charges.
The Huawei Mate 10/Mate Pro are dual-SIM devices which support dual VoLTE and VoWiFi. This means you’ll get 4G on both SIMs with the best voice call quality. The VoWiFi feature will be enabled starting 30 January 2018 and it is currently supported on DiGi and U Mobile. If VoWiFi is enabled, you’ll notice a Wi-Fi icon next to your mobile operator’s name on the notifications bar.
