The Meizu M6s is a mid-range 18:9 display smartphone priced under RM700

Almost every smartphone maker is releasing a smartphone with a “Full View” or 18:9 display. This makes it possible to fit a larger screen without increasing the width of the phone excessively.

When Xiaomi announced the Redmi 5, it is probably the most affordable 18:9 smartphone you can buy with price starting from 799 CNY (about RM492) for the base model. If you’re looking for an alternative, Meizu has just announced the M6s and it is powered by Samsung’s new mid-range Exynos processor.

The Meizu M6s features a 5.7” 18:9 display which pushes a HD+ resolution of 1440×720, which is similar to the Redmi 5. Despite being a budget device, Meizu’s iconic circle mBack button is now moved onto the display that’s also pressure sensitive.

Under the hood, it runs on an Exynos 7872 processor that’s based on a 14nm FinFET process. It’s an hexa-core CPU with 2x high-performance A73 cores and 4x A53 cores for efficiency. The Meizu M6s has 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM with internal storage options of either 32GB or 64GB. If you need more, it accepts microSD cards of up to 128GB in capacity,.

Over at the rear, it gets a 16MP f/2.0 PDAF main camera, while the front comes with an 8MP f/2.0 selfie shooter that has a host of beautification features.

For the first time on a Meizu smartphone is its side-mounted fingerprint sensor which can unlock in 0.2 seconds. Unlike Sony flagship smartphones that has a single power button with embedded fingerprint sensor, the Meizu M6s has a separate power button that’s placed right above the fingerprint sensor.

Powering the device is a 3,000mAh battery which supports Meizu’s 18W mCharge fast charging via microUSB. A 15-minute charge can replenish 30% of the battery while a 30-minute charge can push up to 52%. As usual, the device is running on Android with a custom FlymeOS 6.2 skin on top.

The Meizu M6s will be going on sale in China start on 19 January and it’s available in Black, Silver, Gold and Blue. The base 32GB model is going for 999CNY (about RM615), while the 64GB storage option is priced at 1,199 CNY (about RM738).
