Sony’s latest Xperia smartphone with dual-selfie cameras has arrived in Malaysia

Fresh from CES 2018, Sony Mobile Malaysia has introduced its new Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra. These are their latest mid-range smartphones that are designed to take on the selfie-centric market that’s heavily dominated by the likes of OPPO, vivo and Huawei. Unlike its previous XA and XA1 smartphones, the new Xperia XA2 series is now powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 processor.

Xperia XA2

The Xperia XA2 is the smaller of the two as it gets a 5.2″ Full HD display. It runs on a Snapdragon 630 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage which is expandable via microSD. The front gets an 8MP f/2.4 selfie camera that has a 120-degree super-wide angle lens while the rear gets a 23MP f/2.0 shooter with Hybrid AutoFocus which can shoot videos in 4K. Instead of placing the camera close to the edge, the main camera is now mounted in the middle.

Powering the device is a 3,300mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 3.0 via USB-C. Unlike previous Xperia models, the fingerprint sensor is now mounted at the rear underneath its main camera. The Xperia XA2 is available in Silver, Black, Blue and Pink.

Xperia XA2 Ultra

The Xperia XA2 Ultra is a 6.0″ phablet that also pushes a Full HD resolution. You also get the same Snapdragon 630 processor but RAM is bumped up to 4GB and it has double the storage at 64GB.

The main highlight is its dual-selfie cameras with flash. The first selfie-camera is a 16MP f/2.0 camera with OIS, while the second unit is an 8MP f/2.4 camera for wide-angle shots. The camera at the rear is same as the XA2 with a 23MP Exmor RS camera that can do 4K videos.

Since this is a larger device, it gets a 3,580mAh battery which also charges via USB-C. The XA2 Ultra comes in Silver, Black, Blue and Gold. Out of the box, both XA2 and XA2 Ultra are running on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo.

Xperia L2

Also announced for Malaysia is their entry-level Xperia L2. It has a 5.5″ HD 720p display with a MediaTek MT6737T processor. The device comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage which is also expandable via microSD.

For taking pictures, it gets an 8MP f/2.4 selfie camera with 120-degree super wide angle lens and a main 13MP f/2.0 shooter. Keeping the lights on is a 3,300mAh battery which also charges via USB-C. The Xperia L2 comes in Black, Gold and Pink, and it still runs on Android 7.0 Nougat.

The Sony Xperia XA2 is officially priced at RM1,299, while the bigger Xperia XA2 Ultra with dual-selfie cameras is priced at RM1,999. The Xperia XA2 will be available for pre-order starting from 20 January until 31 January 2018 at all Sony Mobile stores, Sony Centres and authorised dealers. It’s also available for online pre-order via 11Street.

As a pre-order promo for the Xperia XA2 Ultra, customers will stand a chance to redeem complimentary gifts such as RM200 rebate, a UCH2W Quick Charger, a 1+1 year extended warranty, transparent case and a Nano Screen Protector, all worth up to RM600.

Meanwhile, the Xperia L2 is officially priced at RM999. All three models will go on sale in Malaysia beginning 9 February 2018 and the Xperia XA2 is exclusively available at selected Sony Centres and Sony Stores.
