HTC U11 EYEs is a water resistant smartphone with dual-selfie cameras

The HTC U11 EYEs is finally announced and it looks like a mid-range smartphone that’s based on the U11+. Like most selfie-centric smartphones these days, the U11 EYEs has two front cameras that can produce bokeh-licious selfies.

As speculated earlier, it has a 6.0″ Full HD+ (2160×1080) 18:9 Super LCD3 display and it runs on a Snapdragon 652 processor. Compared to the latest crop of mid-range processors, the Snapdragon 652 is quite dated as it is still based on a 28nm process and it used to power the Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro from 2016. It has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage that’s expandable via microSD.

Over at the front, it has two 5MP cameras f/2.2 cameras that can do real-time bokeh shots with a host of beautification features. Over at the rear, it gets a 12MP f/1.7 UltraPixel 3 camera that’s similar to its flagship models. There’s also OIS and the ability to shoot videos in 4K.

Similar to the U11+, the fingerprint sensor is placed at the back and the U11 EYEs also gets Face Unlock feature for extra unlocking convenience.

Powering the U11 EYEs is a 3,930mAh battery which supports QuickCharge 3.0 charging via USB-C. Like its flagships, there’s no headphone jack but HTC is including a pair of USonic headphones with active noise cancellation. There’s also Edge Sense that lets you squeeze for additional interaction plus an Edge Launcher that lets you launch your favourite apps in a single hand. The U11 EYEs also gets IP67 dust and water resistance which is rated to be submerged up to 1 metre deep for up to 30 minutes.

In Taiwan, the HTC U11 EYEs is going for 14,900 TWD (about RM1,997) and it’s available in Red, Black and Blue. So far there’s no word of it coming to Malaysia. If it does, it competes directly with the Galaxy A8 (2018) that also comes with dual-camera with water resistance.
