Apple has achieved a new milestone as it kicks off 2018 with record-breaking sales on its App Store. On New Year’s day of 2018, App Store customers around the world have spent an accumulative US$300 million (about RM1.22 billion on 1/1/2018). For the holiday week starting on 24 December 2017, Apple customers have spent over US$890 million (about RM3.6 billion) for the 7-day period.

According to Apple, iOS developers have earned US$26.5 billion (about RM107.32 billion) in 2017 which is a 30% increase over 2016. They added that iOS developers have earned over US$86 billion (about RM348.3 billion) since the App Store was first introduced in July 2008.

Augmented Reality is a big hit on the App Store and there are almost 2,000 ARKit-enabled apps covering every category. Pokemon GO went back to the top of the charts on 21 December when it introduced AR features based on Apple’s ARKit framework. The update provides a more detailed and realistic gameplay. Other popular AR game titles include CSR Racing 2, Stack AR and Kings of Pool.
