You can buy the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus in Malaysia. All priced under RM800

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 series is probably the most affordable 18:9 smartphone lineup that comes with competitive specs. If you can’t wait for the official units to arrive in Malaysia, retailer DirectD has brought in imported units which are surprisingly cheaper than expected.

The base Redmi 5 model with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage is priced from RM599, while the higher spec 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage would cost you an extra RM100. What’s interesting is the high-spec Redmi 5 Plus with 4GB RAM and 64GB can be yours at only RM799. As a comparison, this same spec is priced at 1,299CNY in China which is RM812 if converted directly.

Redmi 5 (2GB RAM + 16GB storage) – RM599
Redmi 5 (3GB RAM + 32GB storage) – RM699
Redmi 5 Plus (3GB RAM + 32GB storage) – RM699
Redmi 5 Plus (4GB RAM + 64GB storage) – RM799

To refresh your memory, the Redmi 5 is a 5.7″ smartphone while the Redmi 5 Plus has a larger 5.99″ FullHD+ display. The smaller Redmi 5 gets an entry-level Snapdragon 450 processor while the Plus model gets a mid-range Snapdragon 625 unit. You can learn more in our Redmi 5 announcement post.

Since these units are not from Xiaomi Malaysia, they are covered by DirectD’s in-house 12-month warranty. If you can wait, both models have passed SIRIM certification and official units could go on sale in the months to come.

For more info, you can check out both Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus pages on DirectD.
