Sony is expected to launch its new smartphones at the upcoming MWC 2018 in Barcelona. Ahead of its big reveal, one of its new devices has just appeared on our Malaysian SIRIM database. The is the Xperia XA2 Ultra phablet and it replaces its current 6.0″ Xperia XA1 Ultra.
If you don’t like MediaTek processors, you’ll be happy to know that the next XA device will be getting a different chip.
The device was approved this week and it carries the model number H4233 including the actual Xperia XA2 Ultra name. Just like its predecessor, we expect a smaller XA2 (non-Ultra) to be announced as well.
In terms of specs, the same device had appeared on GeekBench which gives us a glimpse of its internal hardware. According to the listing, it will retain the same 6.0″ Full HD display and it will be powered by a 2.2GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 630 processor that comes with an Adreno 508 GPU. As a comparison, the Xperia XA1 Ultra is currently running on a MediaTek Helio P20, while its previous model, the Xperia XA Ultra, is powered by a MediaTek Helio P10. The Xperia XA2 Ultra also gets 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
For photography, it appears to be getting a 21MP main camera that’s capable of shooting 4K videos, while the front gets a 16MP selfie shooter. Like its current flagship, the Xperia XZ1, it will run on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
