As smartphones are packing even larger displays, one company has just introduced what appears to be the smallest phone in the world. Imagine a device that’s roughly the size of a USB thumb drive which you can use for voice call and text. On top of that, its tiny 200mAh battery is rated to last up to an incredible 3 days on a single charge.
This minuscule phone is called the tiny T1 and it’s made by Zanco which has been in the business of making small feature phones since 2007. Measuring at only 46.7mm tall and 21mm wide, the tiny T1 is actually smaller than your thumb. It weighs just 13 grams which is ridiculous. That’s lighter than 5 pieces of our Malaysian 10 sen coins.
In terms of functionality, it gets a basic 0.49″ OLED screen and a fully functional keypad that’s backlit. Onboard, it has storage for 300 contacts, 50 SMS and 50 call records. It serves a backup phone and since it’s so small, you can easily sneak one in at places where phones are not allowed.
The only thing to take note is that it only works with 2G bands in either GSM 850, 900, DCS 1800 and PCS 1900. Sorry, you can’t use this in Singapore, Australia or other countries that have disabled their 2G networks. With a phone of this size, it charges via MicroUSB and it accepts a single nano-SIM card.
If you’re interested, you can pledge for one on KickStarter at 35 GBP (about RM191) which is cheaper than a Nokia 3310 (2017). Looking for something more practical? There’s the NichePhone-S that’s the size of a credit card. It weighs just 38 grams and it even supports Bluetooth and 3G with tethering.
