Xiaomi will be one of the first to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor

Qualcomm has just announced its new top of the line Snapdragon 845 processor which will be powering next year’s flagship smartphones. This would succeed the Snapdragon 835 processor that’s currently found on current flagships from Samsung, Sony, HTC, LG, OnePlus and more.

Technical details of the new Snapdragon 845 are scarce at the moment but Qualcomm is expected to reveal the full specs tomorrow. Similar to the current Snapdragon 835, Qualcomm would be relying on Samsung for the production of the new chip and it’s likely to be based on a 10nm FinFET process.

You can also expect Qualcomm to pair the latest chip with their new X20 LTE modem. Not only it can deliver faster Gigabit Cat.18 LTE speeds but also support for Dual SIM and dual VoLTE.

While you can expect Samsung to use this new flagship processor on the upcoming Galaxy S9 (US Variant), Xiaomi has confirmed that the Snapdragon 845 will be powering their next flagship smartphone. No timelines were mentioned but it is likely to be featured in their upcoming Mi 7. The current Mi 6 was revealed in April this year so expect the new one to be announced sometime in Q2 2018.

Apart from smartphones, Qualcomm is also looking at powering 2-in-1 convertible laptops with Windows 10. Both ASUS and HP have revealed their always-connected PCs that are powered by a Snapdragon 835 mobile processor along with built-in 4G LTE. The biggest advantage here would be battery life which they claim to last as long as 22 hours on a single charge.
