Malaysia wants to use AES to catch drivers using phones while driving

Texting drivers beware, the Transport Ministry wants the Automated Enforcement System (AES) cameras to catch you if you’re on your mobile while on the road.

As of the moment, according to Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Abdul Aziz Kaprawi, Malaysian drivers are still brave enough to use their phones because they are usually able to evade being caught in the act, hence the need to enhance the system.

There are plans in the works to improve the cameras, which currently aim to catch speeding drivers by snapping shots of the driver and the vehicle. The main purpose of this is to reduce the number of accidents and deaths due to mobile phone use on the road, but whether or not it will work really depends on the cameras actually being able to catch you in the act.

Do you think this will really reduce traffic accidents from drivers on their mobiles? let us know in the comments.
