Hate the iPhone X’s notch? There’s an app for that

Don’t like the notch that appears on the top of the iPhone X‘s display? For those who can’t stand it, here’s a remedy that you’ve been looking for.

The iPhone X has a 5.8″ display that stretches from edge to edge. However, it needed to leave a gap at the top in order to house its earpiece and TrueDepth camera which enables its new Face ID feature. With some users finding this notch annoying, an app developer has released an app that’s simply called the Notch Remover.

Obviously, it is impossible to remove the notch via software. The app simply adds a black bar at the top of your wallpaper to create an illusion that the phone has a full rectangular display with rounded corners. This works best while you’re on the home screen and you’ll definitely see the notch when you’re running an app that supports full screen.

It is worth pointing out that the app isn’t following Apple’s design guidelines but surprisingly it was approved on the AppStore. There’s section that reads as follows:

Don’t mask or call special attention to key display features. Don’t attempt to hide the device’s rounded corners, sensor housing, or indicator for accessing the Home screen by placing black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Don’t use visual adornments like brackets, bezels, shapes, or instructional text to call special attention to these areas, either.

If you’re interested, the Notch Remover is now available on the AppStore and it will cost you RM3.90.
