Xiaomi‘s just introduced a new smartphone series, along with the first two phones in the line. Say hello to the Xiaomi Redmi Y1 and the Redmi Y1 Lite.

The Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite aren’t exactly brand new however, as they are actually the global versions of the Redmi Note 5A and Redmi Note 5A Prime that were launched a few months back in China. The Redmi Note 5A with 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage is already on sale in Malaysia with the retail price of RM549. As such, both sets of devices do have a lot in common, to an almost uncanny level.

Xiaomi Redmi Y1

Sporting a 5.5″ HD 720p LCD, alongside an octa-core Snapdragon 435 chipset at 1.4GHz, the device runs on MIUI 8 on Android Nougat 7.0, but is set to update to MIUI 9 by the year’s end.

As far as memory is concerned, you get two options; 3GB RAM + 32GB storage or the 4GB RAM + 64GB storage for the premium version of the device. The Redmi Y1 also gets a 16MP front shooter with f/2.0 aperture plus 76-degree lens and a LED flash, while the rear camera is a lower resolution 13MP snapper.

Last but not least, the phone will come with three card slots (two nano sims+ microSD) and a fingerprint sensor.

The 3GB RAM + 32GB storage version will retail for INR8,999 (about RM588) while the premium, 4GB RAM + 64GB storage version will retail for INR10,999 (about RM719).

Xiaomi Redmi Y1 Lite

Featuring roughly the same specs as the Redmi Y1, the Redmi Y1 Lite has a few differences in terms of hardware but not really much in terms of looks.

The device is home to a 5.5″ HD 720p LCD, with a 5MP front shooter and the same 13MP rear camera as the Redmi Y1. Unlike its sibling, the Lite doesn’t have a fingerprint scanner.

The Redmi Y1 Lite retails for INR6,999 (about RM458).

Both devices are set to hit Mi Stores and Amazon India come November 8th.
