Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact is now available in Malaysia

UPDATE: The Xperia XZ1 Compact is now available in Malaysia.

If you’re looking for an Android flagship that’s compact to hold, the Xperia XZ1 Compact is probably the best bet right now. Announced at IFA 2017, the Xperia XZ1 is the smallest Snapdragon 835 powered smartphone and it runs on Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

Compared to its RM2,999 full-sized Xperia XZ1, the Xperia XZ1 Compact is tiny with a 4.6″ HD 720p display but you get the same flagship specs underneath. It runs on a Snapdragon 835 processor with 4GB of RAM. Internal storage is smaller than the XZ1 at 32GB but it still supports microSD storage expansion.

The main camera at the rear is Sony Mobile’s top of the line 19MP Motion Eye camera which can take super slow-mo videos at 960fps while the front comes with an 8MP selfie shooter. The Xperia XZ1 Compact also gets front stereo speakers, IP68 dust/water resistance, Hi-Res Audio and a 2,700mAh battery, which surprisingly is the same capacity as its bigger XZ1.

According to its listing on Sony Malaysia, the Xperia XZ1 Compact is priced at RM2,099. At least, it’s cheaper than the Xperia Z5 Compact which was released in Malaysia with a hefty RM2,299 price tag. However, it isn’t available at the moment. When we try to add to cart on Sony Malaysia’s website, it gave us a “Out of Stock” message. With the price revealed, it is a sign that it could be hitting the shelves in Malaysia very soon. The Xperia XZ1 Compact comes in Black, Horizon Blue, White Silver and Twilight Pink.

UPDATE: Sony Malaysia announces the availability of Xperia XZ1 Compact in Malaysia. It is available at selected Sony Centres and Sony Stores starting today.
