Samsung’s Galaxy A (2018) may get a sexy display upgrade

People like to complain that tech sites and reviewers only get excited about expensive flagship phones that hardly anyone can afford instead of the everyman mid-range phone. But there are two good reasons for that: The first is that flagship phones tend to have awesome kickass features. The second is that those awesome features you see in this year’s flagships will likely show up in next year’s affordable mid-range handset.

If you’ve been longing to get your hands on the gorgeous Infinity Displays Samsung equips with their flagship Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note8 phones, 2018 could be a good year for you. Why? Well, the latest leaks of Samsung’s Galaxy A (2018) phones seem to indicate that they’ll feature Infinity Displays of their own.

These renders are of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy A5 (2018) and Galaxy A7 (2018) smartphones, and they come courtesy of leakster @onleaks.

What can we tell from these? Well, the first notable feature of the handsets are their slim-bezel displays up front. Just like how the Galaxy A (2017) featured the water-resistance of the Galaxy S7, these phones look to feature some kind of Infinity Display from this year’s Galaxy S8 and Note8 phones. However, it looks like the front displays won’t be curved, so it should look closer to something like the LG G6 or the Google Pixel 2 XL instead.

With the screen pushed all the way to the sides and almost all the way to the top and bottom, there’s no space on the front of the phone for a physical home button. It’s likely that they will feature the same kind of home button setup as this year’s Galaxy S8 and Note8 too.

Speaking of the screen, MySmartPrice believes that both phones will feature Full HD+ displays pushing a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels, giving it an 18:9 aspect ratio. The phones will be differentiated by size, however, as the Galaxy A5 (2018) will come with a 5.5-inch panel while the Galaxy A7 (2018) will pack a 6-inch display.

There is still space for the front-facing camera, however, and this render makes it seem that the new phones will come with dual front-facing cameras. This should put the phone in direct competition with the likes of Huawei’s Nova 2i that launched this year.

Besides that, it looks like the phones will be retaining their excellent metal and glass bodies with broadly the same button layout. There’s curiously no dedicated Bixby button. though it wouldn’t be surprising if these phones do feature them when they launch next year.

Around back, you’ll notice that Samsung has finally done the one thing we wanted them to do with their rear-mounted fingerprint scanner: Put it in the middle of the phone. You will, however, notice that there’s no flash module in this render but it’s not because this new phone won’t feature one, it’s simply because OnLeaks forgot to include it in his render.

Other features include a side-mounted speaker, a USB Type-C charging port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
