Huawei isn’t the only one releasing a new compact tablet for the Malaysian market. If you’re looking for an alternative, the Galaxy Tab A (2017) 8.0″ with 4G LTE has arrived in Malaysia.
The Galaxy Tab A (2017) features a lightweight metal back design and it comes with an 8″ display that pushes a modest 1280×800 (WXGA) resolution. Unlike its previous Galaxy Tab A series, there’s no S Pen included for this 2017 model. With an optional dock, the tablet has a Home Mode which shows you useful information such as the time, calendar and weather while charging.
Powering the device is an entry-level Octa-Core Snapdragon 425 processor and it comes with just 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage. If you need more, there’s a microSD slot which accepts cards up to 256GB. It has an 8MP f/1.9 main camera with auto focus and a front facing 5MP unit.
This tablet supports 4G LTE and you can also use it as a phone as it has an earpiece built-in at the top. According to the spec-sheet it supports a large variety of bands including FDD-LTE in 700MHz, 850MHz, 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2,600MHz as well as TDD-LTE in 2300MHz and 2600MHz. It also supports 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2.
Powering the Galaxy Tab A 2017 8.0″ is a 5,000mAh battery which is rated to last up to 14 hours of video playback on a single charge. Out of the box, it runs on Android 7.1 Nougat. The tablet comes in Gold, Silver and Black, and it’s officially priced at RM1,199 in Malaysia.
